Rangers continue to monitor Mikey Moore’s situation at Tottenham following the winger’s outstanding loan spell at Ibrox last season.
The 18-year-old became one of Rangers’ standout performers during the campaign, winning over supporters with his fearless attacking play, work rate and ability to produce in big moments.
His performances made an immediate impact in Glasgow, and it is no surprise that Rangers remain keen on the prospect of bringing him back for another season under Derek McInnes.
Competition growing for Tottenham starlet
A return to Ibrox, however, is becoming increasingly difficult.
Several clubs from across Europe are now tracking Moore’s situation as Tottenham assess where the England youth international will continue his development.
The winger is currently part of Spurs’ pre-season plans, but with the Premier League club still looking to strengthen their attacking options, regular first-team opportunities could prove difficult to come by.
If that happens, another loan move is expected to become a realistic possibility before the transfer window closes.
Reports suggest clubs in Germany are leading the race, with both FC Köln and Hamburg showing strong interest in signing Moore, while Championship side Middlesbrough are also monitoring the situation.
Rangers still have reasons to be optimistic
Despite growing competition, Rangers can point to Moore’s successful spell at Ibrox as a major advantage.
The youngster settled quickly into life in Scotland, gained valuable first-team experience and developed significantly over the course of the season.
Rather than needing time to adapt, Moore would be able to return to an environment where he already understands the demands of playing for Rangers and the expectations that come with representing the club.
Tottenham will ultimately decide what is best for the player’s development, and any further additions to their attacking options this summer could increase the likelihood of another temporary move.
While there has also been speculation over a permanent transfer, a loan agreement remains the most likely outcome at this stage.
Rangers are still expected to strengthen in the wide areas before the transfer window closes, and Moore remains a player admired by McInnes and the recruitment team.
Whether that admiration is enough to overcome competition from clubs in England and Germany remains to be seen, but Rangers have not given up hope of securing the return of one of last season’s most exciting players.
